Summit Professional Growth to Focus on Sustainability

Posted by klhouse on July 30, 2008

Our Professional Development theme for 2008-2009 will be Environmental Sustainability. On Monday, August 25, our workshop speaker will be Josh Hahn of Stone Bridge, whose website posts this quotation from David Orr, Professor of Environmental Studies at Oberlin College: “The planetary emergency unfolding around us is, first and foremost a crisis of thought, values, perception, ideas and judgment. In other words, it is a crisis of mind, which makes it a crisis of those institutions which purport to improve minds.” Josh views sustainability opportunities through a wide lens to ensure that the school serves current students responsibly without compromising the needs of future generations. At the end of this session, teachers will be given lots of opportunities to involve themselves in sustainability programs. The Green Committee has been collecting ideas from staff and will have organized activities, movies, workshops and research opportunities for which teachers will be given renewal credits.
